Jeder weiß, dass Oscar Wilde bekannt ist für seine Sentenzen und Aphorismen.
Jeder weiß auch, dass ich mich im Moment sehr eingehend mit ihm bzw. seinem Werk beschäftige. Und da stieß in einem Buch über ihn auf eine Aussage von ihm über Musik. Obwohl ich immer schon recht viel über Oscar Wilde wusste, weil er mich seit ehedem faszinierte, war es mir bislang unbekannt, dass er sich auch über Musik äußerte.
Dieses Zitat fand ich so wunderschön, so treffend - und außerdem ist es so wahr in meinen Augen (auch die Tatsache, dass Chopin ihn zu dieser Aussage trieb), ich empfinde oft dasselbe, wenn ich Klavier spiele oder Musik anhöre.
Here goes:
After playing Chopin, I feel as if I had been weeping over sins I had never commited, and mourning over tragedies that were not my own. Music always seems to me to produce that effect. It creates for one a past of which one has been ignorant and fills one with a sense of sorrow that have been hidden from one's tears.

Und er sagte, ähnlich eigentlich wie Poe, dies hier:
Music is the art in which form and matter are always one, the art whose subject cannot be separated from the method of its expression, the art which most completely realises the artistic ideal, and is the condition to which all the other arts are constantly aspiring.

So, und jetzt, glaube ich, muss ich eine kleine Lesepause einlegen und mich ans Klavier setzen ...
